Our Candle Care Guide
Each and every one of our candles is produced with great care. The key to creating a perfect candle burning experience not only comes down to how the candle is made, but how it is maintained throughout its lifetime.
Storing my candle
Always store candles in a cool dry place, out of direct sunlight, as they are sensitive to temperature and light which can damage the structure of the wax and affect the way your candle performs.
Avoid draughts
Candles burn best in still air. Draughts can cause a candle to smoke or burn unevenly. Make sure to place them away from open windows and doors.
Wick care
Before lighting, always ensure your candle wick is trimmed to approximately 5mm to remove any “clubbing” from the wick. This will prevent the candle from smoking and will ensure better scent diffusion. It also yields a smaller, more elegant flame. Please make sure the wick is centred within the wax at all times to ensure uniform
burning.
Candle memory
To maximise the lifespan of your candle, you will need to set the candle memory: The size of the wax pool on the first burn sets the memory for the lifetime of the candle. When you light your candle for the first time do not
extinguish it until an even wax pool reaching the edge of the glass has formed. This can take between 3-4 hours. Your candle will then burn evenly all the way down. If you extinguish your candle before a complete wax pool has been formed, you may experience “tunnelling” and you will be left with a perimeter of unburned wax.
Wax pool
Ensure the candle wax pool is clear of debris prior to burning. Match heads and wick remnants in the wax pool can lead to a candle flaring, so remember to remove any wick or debris from the candle before burning.
Extinguishing your candle
Always use a candle snuffer to extinguish the flame. Blowing out your candle is not recommended as the molten wax can splatter and the wick may continue to glow and emit smoke.
Candle Safety Tips
Before Burning
- Do not burn if glass is cracked or damaged.
- Ensure the candle wax pool is clear of debris prior to burning.
While Burning
- Never leave a burning candle unattended.
- Burn your candle out of the reach of children and pets.
- Do not burn candles on or near anything that can catch fire.
- Do not burn candles while next to walls, windows or below overhanging objects. Allow ample headroom for the candle to burn
- Ensure candle remains upright on a secure, heat-resistant surface.
- Always leave at least 15cm between burning candles.
- Keep wicks trimmed to 5mm (and evenly spaced) at all times to avoid smoking.
- Trim excess wax from pillar candles to ensure an even burn.
- Never allow the flame to touch the side of the glass.
When Extinguishing
- Always use a candle snuffer to extinguish the flame as blowing out your candle can cause the molten wax to splatter and the wick may continue to glow and emit smoke.
- Always stop burning your candle when 10mm of wax remains at the bottom.
- Extinguish the flame if it flickers, smokes or the flame gets too high.
Our Diffuser Care Guide
Reed diffusers are a must have home accessory, creating beautiful, subtle and long lasting fragrance diffusion in any room. They help disguise odours in a more natural and consistent way than harsher chemical air fresheners. They are simple to look after but be sure to follow the safety instructions carefully.
How do your reed diffusers work?
The diffuser liquid is comprised of fragrance and scented oils. When the reeds are placed into the liquid, the oil is drawn up through microscopic channels which run along the entire length of the reed. The scent is then naturally dispersed into the air by way of evaporation. It will take between 24-36 hours for complete scent diffusion to occur, depending on room size.
How often should I turn the reeds?
You can revitalise the fragrance release of your diffuser by inverting the reeds. This can be done every 2 weeks to ensure the delivery of fragrance remains. Occasionally reeds may clog and you will notice a drop in scent diffusion. If this occurs, replace with new reeds.
How long will my diffuser last?
On average a reed diffuser should last 8 – 12 weeks but this will depend on many factors including the fragrance, type and number of reeds used, position of the diffuser in the home and seasonal temperature variations. You will find that diffusion slows down in cooler environments and increases with ambient temperatures in summer. It can also vary in each room depending on air circulation. If you find your diffuser is diffusing too quickly, simply reduce the number of reeds in the vessel.
Diffuser Safety Tips
- Do not light the reeds & keep away from open flames. Reed diffusers are highly flammable.
- Do not ingest.
- Diffuser liquid may damage polished surfaces. Make sure you wipe any residual oil from the bottom of the bottle before placing on a protected, level surface.
- Keep away from children and pets at all times.
- Diffuser liquid may cause an allergic skin reaction. In the event of skin or eye contact, rinse thoroughly with water. If skin irritation occurs seek medical advice/attention.
- Please avoid release into the environment. Some diffuser oils may be harmful to aquatic-life with long lasting effects, so always dispose of contents to an approved disposal site in accordance with local
regulations.
- Always read individual diffuser warning labels carefully prior to use.
